Ten years ago, on July 10, 2006, the most famous Chechen terrorist and warlord Shamil Basayev died. This happened near the village of Ekazhevo in the Nazranovsky district of Ingushetia as a result of the explosion of a KamAZ truck with weapons and ammunition, next to which Basayev was driving. Five more militants died with him.
According to the FSB, Basayev was killed as a result of a special operation. According to the Chechen side, the explosion occurred as a result of careless handling of explosives. The second option looks more plausible, since only a suicide bomber, who could hardly be an FSB agent, could activate an explosive device in a truck at a time when Basayev was nearby.
