2011. Disaster of the motor ship "Bulgaria"

Five years ago, on July 10, 2011, on the Volga near the village of Syukeyevo, Kamsko-Ustyinsky district of Tatarstan, the ship "Bulgaria" sank. 122 people died, 79 people were saved. The cause of the crash was that during a thunderstorm the ship came under the influence of a strong gust of wind from the port side. Due to the roll, the portholes of the starboard side entered the water, and outboard water began to flow into the "Bulgaria". As a result of incorrect maneuvers, the roll increased, the ship capsized and sank.

Two ships - dry cargo ship "Arbat" and pusher "Dunaisky 66" - passed by rafts with passengers and crew of "Bulgaria". The first ship to come to the aid of those in distress was the Arabella cruise ship, whose crew carried out the rescue operation.

The director of ArgoRechTour LLC (a sub-tenant of Bulgaria) Svetlana Inyakina, who received 9.5 years in prison, was recognized responsible for the ship's disaster; Yakov Ivashov, an expert of the River Register, who issued the permission to operate the vessel, was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison; Captain Ramil Khametov, who received 6.5 years; head of the Kazan department of Rostransnadzor Irek Timergazeev, sentenced to 6 years; and the chief state inspector of the Kazan department of Rostransnadzor Vladislav Semenov, who received 5 years.
