David Cameron will resign on July 13

British Prime Minister David Cameron has announced that he will step down on Wednesday 13 July. It is reported by The Guardian.

According to Cameron, on Tuesday he will hold the last meeting of the British government. On Wednesday, he will attend a session of the House of Commons, after which he will go to Buckingham Palace, where he will ask Queen Elizabeth II for her resignation.

“So we will have a new prime minister on Wednesday night,” Cameron said.

Earlier it became known that British Home Secretary Theresa May remained the only candidate for the post of new leader of the Conservative Party and prime minister. Another contender, Energy Minister Andrea Leadsom, withdrew her candidacy.

“I am very happy that Theresa May will become the next prime minister. She is strong, competent, and she can become exactly the kind of leader that the country needs. I absolutely support her,” Cameron said in a statement.
