A terrorist attack in Nice: dozens of dead

Among the victims of the attack there are at least one citizen of Russia, a source in the Russian Consulate General in Marseille said. According to him, another Russian is wounded. “In addition, compatriots cannot confirm the location of several more people,” the TASS interlocutor added .

Later on Friday, the consular department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially confirmed the death of the Russian woman as a result of the attack. "One Russian woman died, her friend was wounded. In addition, the whereabouts of three more Russians are still unknown," the agency posted on Facebook said.

The investigation of the attack was entrusted with the unit of the Paris prosecutor's office specializing in terrorist attacks. The deputy prefect of the Primorsky Alps Sebastien Humber called the incident a "criminal attack." A crisis headquarters was created in the France Ministry of the Interior in Paris in connection with the tragedy in Nice.

According to President Francois Hollande, the attack is an "unconditional terrorist act." "The threat of Islamic terrorism loomed over the whole of France. In these circumstances, we must demonstrate absolute vigilance and unrelenting determination," Hollande said in a special television appeal.

The state of emergency in France will be extended for another three months. The corresponding law will soon be considered by the parliament, Olland added.
