1876. Maxim Litvinov was born

140 years ago, on July 17, 1876, Maxim Maksimovich Litvinov (Mer -Genokh Vallah), a professional revolutionary, after 1917 - a Soviet diplomat was born. In 1930, he became the People's Commissar of Foreign Affairs of the USSR. On May 3, 1939, after Stalin headed for rapprochement with Hitler, he was removed from this post.

However, Litvin was not repressed. With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, he was appointed Deputy People's Commissar of Foreign Affairs and an ambassador to the United States. In 1940, according to some reports, Stalin planned the murder of Litvinov, but it was never implemented.
