© Motionarray.comThe five largest Russian media companies are discussing the possibility of creating a joint online platform to broadcast their content. A similar service exists in the USA - the Hulu.com website broadcasts content Fox, ABC, NBC and other television channels.
According to Kommersant , the shareholders of the project can be the first channel, Gazprom-Media, VGTRK, National Media Group (NMG) and STS Media.
Representatives of these companies have been conducting consultations for several months and are ready to create a joint company if the general online platform is recognized as economically profitable. So far, there is only a preliminary agreement, and decisions on the future of a joint project will be made no earlier than September.
Now Russian media companies have their own online sites: Channel One posts its content on kino.1tv.ru , TNT (belongs to Gazprom-Media)-on Rutube.ru , STS-Media-on Videomore.ru .
According to an employee of one of the companies, the leader of the online segment will be the one who will have maximum access to the content, and if everyone launches online cinemas separately, “you divide the base by five”. “In order for this story to acquire a critical size, we must unite, and everyone understands this,” he said.
The Hulu service, owned by Walt Disney, 21st Century Fox and Comcast , was launched in 2008, content on Hulu.com is available only to users from the USA and Japan. Five years later, Hulu’s annual income grew to a billion dollars, and the number of subscribers by July 2016 exceeded 12 million.
