The release of VHS-formatophone ceases

The Japanese company Funai Electric - the last manufacturer of video recorders for the VHS cassettes - will turn their production by the end of July 2016.

Funai Electric has been producing video recorders for 33 years, recently - in China under the Sanyo brand. In 2015, only 750 thousand were sold, while in the past sales exceeded 15 million devices per year.

The VHS standard was developed by JVC in 1976 and retained popularity until the 2000s-for 2002, according to JVC , more than 900 million video recorders of this format were sold in the world, but then they were supplanted by DVD -REY DVD devices, and then Blu-ray discs.

Last year, Sony announced the termination of the production of video cassettes of the Betamax format, which for many years was competing with VHS .
