The arrest of a student of Karaulova was extended until September 27

The Lefortovo District Court of Moscow extended the student Varvara Karaulova (Alexander Ivanova), accused of trying to join the Islamic State, the term of detention in the pre -trial detention center until September 27. This was reported by RAPSI.

The lawyer of the political prisoner Sergey Badamshin insisted on the release of his client on a subscription of the lower place or the transfer of her under house arrest. He pointed out that in Karaulova there are no materials confirming the arguments of the investigation.

However, the judge ignored the arguments of the defender.

In May 2015, a 19 -year -old Karaulov warehouse left home - according to the FSB to join IS in Syria. As it turned out, she was carried away by the ideas of radical Islam, but kept her beliefs secret from her parents. Eyewitnesses claimed that after leaving the house, the student changed into hijab.

On June 4, Karaulov was detained in the Turkish city of Kilis near the border with Syria. A week later, the student was taken to Moscow.

The Investigative Committee conducted a preliminary investigation on the facts of the possible participation of Karaulova in the activities of the extremist community and its recruitment. According to the results of the audit, at the end of July, he refused to initiate the case against the student. After that, she changed her name and surname, receiving documents in the name of Alexandra Ivanova.

Meanwhile, on October 23, the FSB opened a case against the student under Part 1 of Article 30 - Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code (preparation for participation in the activities of a terrorist organization). Given part 2 of Article 66 of the Criminal Code (sentencing for an unfinished crime), Karaulova threatens up to five years in the colony.

On October 27, the suspect was detained, and the next day the Lefortovo District Court arrested her . The student was placed in the pre-trial detention center-2 of the central headquarters of the FSIN "Lefortovo", unofficially controlled by the FSB. Later she was an official charge.

On February 8, 2016, it became known that Karaulova refused confessions . According to her, in Syria she was traveling to her beloved man, and not for joining IG.

On April 7, information appeared that according to the results of a psychiatric examination in the center named after A Serbian student is recognized as sane . According to Badamshin, such a result is not unexpected for him, but he reacted to the conclusion of doctors.

The mother of the accused Kira Karaulov insists that her daughter suffers from a mental illness. Meanwhile, the FSB claims that the student is healthy, since it is not registered with a psychiatric hospital.

At the previous meeting on the extension of Karaulova’s arrest, May 24, Badamshin sought the release of the student for the personal guarantee of the head of the ICG Lyudmila Alekseeva and two other members of the organization - academician Yuri Ryzhov and Ernst Cherny. The lawyer submitted the relevant documents. Nevertheless, he was refused a petition.

At the end of February, Karaulova’s defense filed a complaint with the ECHR . Lawyers accused Russia of violating articles 5 (the right to freedom and personal integrity) and 6 (the right to a fair trial) of the European Convention.
