
Former Yukos shareholders abandoned claims to the land plot of land belonging to the Russian Federation in Paris, where the spiritual and cultural center is being built, said the head of the International Center for Legal Protection (MCPZ) Andrei Kondakov, representing the interests of Russia in this dispute. “Our opponents, namely, lawyers and former shareholders of the Yukos, abandoned their complaints about the land plot, where the construction of the Russian spiritual and cultural center in Paris, which is located next to the Eiffel Tower. Our lawyers received the appropriate notification of the plaintiff,” Kondakakov quotes Interfax quoted.
The lawyer did not explain the reasons for the refusal. He suggested that representatives of former shareholders of the company in the near future may abandon other arrests and even go to the full review of enforcement proceedings in some other countries. Perhaps we are talking about Great Britain, the USA, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
The arrest of Russian property in the center of Paris was initiated in June 2015 by the Cyprus Hulley Enterprises, which owned most of the Yukos shares and represented the interests of former shareholders of the Yukos. In addition to this site, the company also asked to arrest dozens of other assets of the Russian Federation in France, including buildings, bank accounts, shares of enterprises and payments of French companies.
Former Yukos shareholders managed to getthe arrest of payments by the provider of launch services Arianespace, the satellite operator of Eutelsat and Air France to their Russian counterparties. Then it turned out that among the Russian assets arrested in France were also the money of Rosoboronexport, related to the contract for the supply of Mistral helicopter carriers, as well as the funds that are stored on the account of the VTB in the interests of the MIA Russia Today and FSUP “state procurement”. Later, most of the arrests were canceled.
The building of the Russian Orthodox spiritual and cultural center is built in the seventh district of Paris. On the territory of an area of more than four thousand square meters, the Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, the Russian-French primary school for 150 students, the exhibition center and the building of the diocesan administration and housing for priests and employees of the cultural section of the embassy will be located. The laying of the first stone in the base of the center took place in April 2015. The cost of design and construction of the Center, named in March 2016, amounted to about 90 million euros excluding interior decoration.
Earlier on April 20, Russia achieved the abolition of a resonant decision on the claim of former shareholders of the oil company to recover 50 billion dollars with the Russian Federation. The Gaaga District Court ruled that the arbitration in the Hague, which awarded this compensation in the summer of 2014, did not have jurisdiction in respect of the Yukos case. This verdict gave reason to remove the arrest from Russian assets.
