World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) whistleblower Yulia Stepanova is asking the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to reconsider the decision to ban her from the 2016 Olympics. It is reported by Reuters.

Earlier, the IOC decided not to allow Stepanova to the Olympics due to the fact that in 2013 the athlete was convicted of doping.

The Committee expressed its gratitude to Stepanova "for her contribution to the fight against doping and the purity of sport" and invited the athlete and her husband, former employee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency Vitaly Stepanov, to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Recall that Yulia and Vitaly Stepanov became the main characters in the film of the ARD television company, in which they spoke about the systematic use of doping by Russian athletes at the direction of their coaches.

Their testimony became the basis for the application of sanctions against the All-Russian Athletics Federation (VFLA). Grigory Rodchenkov, the former head of the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory, also spoke about cases of doping during the Sochi Olympics.

The question of Russia's removal from the Olympics arose after the publication of the agency's report, which confirms Rodchenkov's words that at the Olympics in Sochi, Russian officials, with the knowledge of the Minister of Sports, substituted samples of athletes.
