“Now many athletes and coaches, representatives of, say, athletics and a number of other sports, of course, are bitter and hard, we are well aware of this. But I want you to know: we, without a doubt, are proud of you and do everything to defend your good name, sports honor, dignity will surely entertain,” the president said. According to Putin, athletes were undeservedly injured, against which there was no evidence. He called this situation a blow to the Olympic Games.

"Here it is directly necessary to say that short -sighted politicians do not leave at rest and sport, although the sport is designed to bring the peoples closer and smooth out the contradictions between the countries, and the current situation went beyond the framework of not only the legal field, but, in fact, common sense," Putin said.

The president said that Russia will not put up with the discrimination of its athletes, but will act within the framework of the rules.

The procedure for coordinating and approving members of the Russian national team at the Olympics may take a few more days, a source familiar with the situation told Interfax. "Russian national sports federations complet the process of reconciliation of lists with international federations, after which these lists will be sent to the OKR and then transferred to the International Olympic Committee. This should be done no later than Thursday," the source said. He explained that the IOC will study the application of the Russian team and the judge of the sports arbitration court (CAS) will be checked. Then the IOC will approve them and send them to the OKR.

"Thus, the final list can be approved by the Olympic Committee and was published not earlier than Saturday," the source said.

On Sunday, the IOC gave a decision on the admission of a Russian athlete for competitions in Rio de Janeiro to the regional entity for international federations for the appropriate sport .
