House arrest extended for director of the Library of Ukrainian Literature

The Presnensky Court of Moscow extended the term of house arrest for the director of the Library of Ukrainian Literature, Natalya Sharina, until August 29. This is reported by the Russian Agency for Legal and Judicial Information (RAPSI) with reference to the press secretary of the court Anastasia Pylina.

against Sharina A case has been opened for inciting hatred or enmity on ethnic grounds because of the alleged storage of banned books in the Library of Ukrainian Literature. Library staff claim that the books found during the search do not have the stamp of the institution, and suggest that the books were planted.

Later, Sharina was prosecuted for embezzlement using her official position on an especially large scale: according to the investigation, in 2011-2013, when she was also prosecuted for inciting hatred, she spent on her defense funds intended to pay salaries to lawyers libraries.
