Only three Russian weightlifters were allowed to participate in the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. This was reported by the head of the Olympic Committee of Russia Alexander Zhukov, Interfax reports.
“The situation with heavy athletics is now very difficult. At the Olympics in Rio there will be very few Russian athletes. Probably three, but this is still being specified, ”Zhukov said.
Earlier it became known that four Russian weightlifters were convicted of doping. It was about Natalia Zabolotnaya, Svetlana Tsakuraeva and Alexander Ivanova, who received silver medals at the Olympic Games in London in 2012, as well as about Andrei Demanov.
On July 24, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that the Russian team admits participation in the Olympics, but the final decision on the admission of individual athletes will be made by the relevant international federation.
