Dmitry Mikhailovich Shakhovskaya was born in 1928 in the Sergiev Posad in the priest’s family, his father was shot in 1937. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts and the Leningrad Higher Art and Industry School named after V.I. Mukhina.
The main place in the work of the sculptor belonged to monumental-decorative sculpture. The most fame was the clock on the facade of the Central Puppet Theater named after S.V. Obraztsova in Moscow.
Also, among the works of Dmitry Shakhovsky, the monumental and decorative design of the Tula Academic Drama Theater, the Republican Puppet Theater in Tashkent, the musical and drama theater in Kyzyl, the iconostasis in the church of Mitrofania Voronezh in Moscow, the altar obstacle in the Church of the Transfiguration in Tushin, the Mandelstam Osipa Monument in Moscow.
In addition, the sculptor took part in the design and construction of the Church of the Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian in Butovo, at the scene of his father and thousands of other victims of the Stalinist terror.
The easel works of Dmitry Shakhovsky are stored in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum and other museums of Russia and other countries.
