Fazil Abdulovich Iskander was born in 1929 in Sukhumi, in 1938 his father was deported from the USSR, the future writer was brought up by his mother’s relatives in the village of Chegem. He studied at the Library Institute in Moscow, then at the Literary Institute. A.M. Gorky, who graduated in 1954.
He worked as a journalist in Kursk and Bryansk, in 1956 he became an editor in the Abkhaz branch of Gosizdat. He published poetry since the late 1950s, since the beginning of the 1960s he wrote prose.
Fame came to the writer after the release of the Constellation Kozluture (1966, filmed in 1989) in the New World magazine in the journal "New World". In 1979, he participated in the creation of the non -certificate almanac "Metropol". In 1989-1991 he was a deputy from the Abkhaz Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in the Supreme Council of the USSR.
Among the most popular works of Fazil Iskander-epic “Sandro from Chegem”, the epic “Chika’s childhood”, an essay-dialogue “Thinking about Russia and the American”, the story “Rabbits and boas”, the novel “Man and its environs”, “School waltz, or energy of shame”, “Poet”, “Human parking”, “Sofika”, stories “The thirteenth feat of Heracles”, “Beginning”, “Rooster”, “The story of the sea”, “Grandpa”.
PS according to RIA Novosti , Fazil Iskander will be buried in the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow. Farewell to Fazil Iskander will be held on August 2 in the Central House of Writers, TASS reports.
