They took into hostages several people, including high -ranking employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, and demanded the liberation of the head of their movement Girard Sephilyan and the resignation of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.

Political scientists then came to the conclusion that the incident is not related to the rebellion. As the first vice-president of the Center for Political Technologies said in an interview with Polit.ru, the chief editor of the Politkom.ru website Alexei Makarkin, in his opinion, was due to events in Nagorno-Karabakh.

“In what is happening in Yerevan, I do not see a coup - I see there the performance of a group of radical people. This is a reaction to military operations in Karabakh, which took place this year. They ended not very successful for Armenia: the Azerbaijani forces advanced, occupied part of the territory that the Armenian forces had previously occupied. Accordingly, this caused claims to the authorities.

Those people who have now held this action are people who had previously fought in Karabakh. They believe that the authorities are not decisive enough, ”explained Alexei Makarkin.

However, the situation was not resolved for a long time: the building was in vain stormed (while the deputy commander of the police unit, the police colonel Arthur Vanoyan died), then his siege began. Within a week, the hostages were released, but activists refused to leave the building. On July 27, at their request, an ambulance was passed to the activists, but the doctors did not go back.

For several days, doctors managed to leave the building. Activists said that they did not regard the doctors as hostages and are ready to release them in exchange for constant medical care.

All this time in the center of Yerevan and in the area of ​​the captured building of the PPS regiment, mass shares were held in support of the armed group and its requirements. Protesters sought from the city hall the provision of food, medical care and communication with the press; In addition, they in some extent interfered with a power operation. After that, the City Hall of Yerevan banned any performances in the area of ​​the captured PPS post due to the presence of a “real threat of people's lives”, and the President of Armenia announced his readiness to meet Girarier Sephilyan, but only after the captive of the PPS building lay down their weapons. The National Security Service of Armenia also demanded that the Sasna Creer members lay down the weapon and surrender, threatening to storm, but there was no time to surrender weapons or assault.

According to experts, now the Armenia authorities will try to somehow not give the further development of the situation. As Alla Yazkova suggested, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of the Black Sea and Foreigning Studies of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, perhaps Yerevan will not even appoint any noticeable punishments to participants.

The only thing I know is that the opposition who sown in the police building demanded the resignation of the prime minister and the president and the change of general course of Armenian policy. For more than ten days they remained in the captured building and could not be extracted from there; It ended that they left last night.

Now we can talk about what further turns can be in the issue of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Nagorno -Karabakh, since this problem was and will remain relevant until the issue is resolved in this way. And, of course, this will cause damage to stability in the Caucasus.

As for Azerbaijan, now he has largely lost the support of Turkey. Actually, it is unlikely that any country will be relying on Turkey now. Of course, Ilham Aliyev will not go to this either.

As for Armenia and the support that she could count on, it must be said that this whole situation took place without support from Russia - since Russia was interested in maintaining the current political situation in Armenia.

Well, at this stage the events are over. But this does not mean that they will not have consequences further.

Now it is difficult to say what decision the Armenian leadership will make in relation to these rebels, but I think that there will be no particularly tough measures. There will probably be a trial on this occasion. Will the opposition will judge for this? I think there is no, if we talk about awarding them some deadlines or somehow clearly punish.
