Savchenko announced a hunger strike in protest against inaction in the release of prisoners

The deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Nadezhda Savchenko announced a hunger strike, protesting against the "inaction of the authorities of Ukraine and the world" in the matter of the liberation of Ukrainian hostages. According to Ukrainian Pravda, she stated this during a press conference.

According to Savchenko, the process of exchanging prisoners of war and political prisoners with Russia stopped after "this issue was transferred to a political plane."

“I offered the president real actions for the exchange of prisoners: I need to start giving people the first. But the children of Pyotr Alekseevich do not sit in captivity, and he does not care about your children. Because everyone should fight for their sister and mother. Go to the banking, demand a meeting and report from the president as a guarantor of the Constitution,” Savchenko said.

She noted that 2 months and 6 days passed from the moment of his release from Russian captivity, and a hunger strike was one of the mechanisms for accelerating her release.

"From today, I again announce a hunger strike to a positive result," the deputy said.

In early June, Savchenko announced the readiness to negotiate about the liberation of captured Ukrainian military with the leaders of the self -proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics Alexander Zakharchenko and Igor Plotnitsky, against which she fought in the Donbass.

"I am ready to talk with those people I met in battle. If I met personally with Igor Plotnitsky, I know that this person can be discussed, because at least he knows what he was talking about because he was there. I heard that Zakharchenko was fighting. “I believe that there should be an exchange of everyone for everyone, there should be a reconciliation, there should be some specific amnesties,” said Savchenko.

From December 13, 2014 to March 5, 2015, Savchenko kept a hunger strike, demanding release from the pre-trial detention center, but in the end she stopped the action, not having achieved results. In the spring of 2016, she tried to resume the hunger strike, but soon took it off.

On May 25, the plane of President Petro Poroshenko delivered Savchenko from Rostov-on-Don to his homeland . Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on its pardon. Putin noted that the relatives of the VGTRK employees who died in the Donbass asked him such a request. On fabricated charges of their murder, Savchenko was convicted in Russia by 22 years in prison.

At the same time, Poroshenko signed a decree on the pardon of convicts in Ukraine of GRU special forces Evgeny Erofeev and Alexander Alexandrov. They were freed and delivered by an airplane to the Moscow Airport Vnukovo. Russian officials were not present at the airport. Erofeev and Alexandrov were only met by their wives.
