The question was removed from the agenda on the initiative of the Ukrainian side, the official explained. At the same time, she noticed that the absence of an ambassador would not affect the development of relations between Kiev and Moscow.

The former Ambassador of Russia to Kiev, who held this post since 2009, - Mikhail Zurabov - July 28 was removed by decree of Vladimir Putin . The State Duma stated that the new head of the Russian diplomatic mission would be appointed no earlier than in October, after the new composition of the lower house begins to work.

Nevertheless, the next day, the State Duma Committee on International Affairs supported Babich’s candidacy for the post of ambassador.

At the same time, notes the 5th Canal, Russia, in violation of the diplomatic protocol, publicly reported plans to appoint Babich before the coordination of his candidacy with the Ukrainian side.

Babich is 47 years old. In 1986-1995, he served in the Airborne Forces and KGB troops, participated in hostilities. Then he worked for several years in business structures, and since 2000 he held various high positions in the regions administrations. In November 2002 - March 2003 he headed the Chechen government controlled by the Kremlin, then he was an assistant to the director of the FSB border service.

In 2003-2011, he was a State Duma deputy from United Russia, deputy chairman of the Lower Chamber of Defense. Since December 2011 - Plenipotentiary representative of Putin in the Volga Federal District.
