A monument to Ivan the Terrible will be erected in Aleksandrovskaya Sloboda for National Unity Day

A monument to Ivan the Terrible will be erected in the city of Alexandrov, Vladimir Region. This was stated by the head of the regional administration Igor Pershin.

According to him, the foundation stone will be laid on the day of the city on August 6, and the monument itself is planned to be erected by the National Unity Day on November 4.

“The pedestal will look across the river at Alexandrovskaya Sloboda, from where Ivan the Terrible ruled Russia for 17 years,” Pershin said.

The author of the monument is the sculptor Vasily Selivanov, according to the Vladimir edition of Zebra-TV.

Fundraising for the installation of the monument was organized by the Russian Knight Foundation, and also, judging by the project page on VKontakte, by the Context information and publicist agency. On the website of "Context" there is an article dated December 23, 2014 about the need to create a monument to Ivan the Terrible in order to "restore historical justice." “He created a powerful state, doubling the country’s territory and population, won strategically important wars, established zemstvo assemblies and carried out reforms that determined the development of Russia for centuries,” the material says.
