Olympic fire delivered to Rio de Janeiro

Olympic fire arrived in Rio de Janeiro, the capital of the Summer Olympic Games 2016, reports CNN .

In Rio, the lit torch was brought by the participants of the Brazilian national team in sailing. He was delivered from the Gayanabar Gulf. In the final stage of the relay, the mayor of the city Eduard Paes, football coach Mario Zagallo, UN General Pan Gi Moon and other celebrities took part.

The fire of the XXXI Summer Olympic Games was solemnly lit in the Greek Olympia on April 21, and the traditional relay started in Brazil on May 3. It lasted 95 days. About 12 thousand torch -bearers ran a total of 30 thousand kilometers. During the relay, Olympic fire saw 329 cities.

Earlier on Wednesday, it became known that the three-time world champion in the Brazilian national team, the legendary football player Pele received an invitation to light the fire-2016 fire in Rio de Janeiro. The opening ceremony of the Olympics will be held on August 5 at the Marakana stadium, where Pele scored his thousandth goal in his career in 1969.

The football player told reporters that he was personally asked to light a fire by the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach and the head of the 2016 Olympics Carlos Arthur Nuzman. According to Pele, they may prevent him from taking part in the ceremony of obligations on sponsorship contracts.
