“Bourne” was always famous for by car chases and received two prizes: “The Excellence of Bourne” and “Ultimatum Born” took the Taurus Award. Of course, they decided to make pursuit [in the new film] even better. It participates in it by the armored car of the special forces (with Vincent Cassel), and the hero of Matt Damon, that is, I, traveling after him at Dodge Chardere. An armored car is like a tank, I just can’t stop him, so they came up with all sorts of elements that can be done with him on a regular machine. In the end, she simply jumps onto the armored car and covers the windshield, and then they all crawl together in a casino. And on the way, the armored car blows all the cars, breaks everything, especially does not even slow down.
On the set of the chase there was a rather dangerous final jump - from the overpass at an altitude of 4 meters. You jump on this truck, and if you missed, you fall on the asphalt from 4 meters. It is dangerous - from such a height it is flat to jump on the asphalt. You have to go to bed with your back. I made a jump 4 times, differently-once a little forward, a little ago. There was no one at all. The whole synchronization is very complicated.
We do not read the script, but they send us a list of shots - what is happening in the frame, where what camera, where is the lens, which angle should be. From this it is clear that here Bourne touched that car, bounced in that direction - this is more operator history. Usually we come to rehearsals, and the stunt prisoner on the first day collects everyone to tell about the scene. We test different mechanisms, adaptations for tricks, machines; On large projects, they can even break the car, just to see what damage it will receive, where it will fall. Plus, the stuntman needs to get used to the car, tune in, as more convenient. We shot all the chase for a month and a half.
In car chases, in principle, all the tricks are already made, it is difficult to come up with something new. There are simply car chases with a lower level - when cars are carried through the summer cafe, demolishing plastic chairs, such cliches. We try to do everything at maximum speed, although it is hard, because you have a operator car that does not have time to remove everything. You have to think all the time so that the operators have time, and look into the mirrors in order not to tear themselves away.
At all large projects, the machine is controlled on the roof. Put a frame with a seat and steering wheel, with pedals. The stuntman sits on the roof, and the actor - at the wheel, hangs cameras, light on the hood. The actor does not see where he is going, and the stuntman drives the car, the crew removes the actor inside through the glass. This also works for a close -up.
“The Excellence of Bourn” was my first film about Bourne, and this was the second picture in my career. The director of the auxiliary operator group was Dan Bradley, who then noticed me; Then he took me to the “ultimatum of Bourne”, on “Quantum of Mercy”, “Mission Impossible”. On the last project - “Jason Borne” - he could not work out by the dates, instead of him was the Englishman Simon Crane, also very famous. He has a slightly different style-more classic, not so twitching, calmer.
We are not even familiar with the main director, we communicate with the actors when they are brought for a day or two to shoot cars. I may be smaller, because still the language [influences] and they have their own friends. With Matt Damon-he was glad that I was participating in this pursuit again-they talked a little.
