SkyNews correspondent Paul Kelso on August 5 spoke about the strangest incident at the Rio Games.
According to Kelso, one of the kayakers rolled over and fell into the water, colliding with a sofa during the training races of kayakers. “If this is true, then this is the story of the day, and maybe the whole week,” wrote Kelso.
Following Paul Kelso's tweet, the hashtag #KayakSofa (kayaking divan) began to gain popularity, and the Washington Post ran an article with the headline "Give #KayakSofa a gold medal for the Olympic hashtag."
The Times correspondent Martin Ziegler later said that he had asked Mario Andrada, director of communications for the Rio 2016 organizing committee, about the sofa incident. Andrada said that this is the first time he hears about this and promised to investigate the incident.
