Relatives of Ukrainian prisoners of war held in Russia and Donbass took part in the action

Before the building of the President of Ukraine on Monday, the action “Do not throw your” took place in support of relatives of Ukrainian prisoners held in Russia and Donbass. The Verkhovna Rada deputy Nadezhda Savchenko took part in it. This was reported by Radio Liberty correspondent Vladimir Ivakhnenko.

Several dozens of demonstrators signed a letter-show to the head of state Petro Poroshenko with a demand to take specific measures to liberate the prisoners. Savchenko took this letter to the presidential administration.

Speaking to the audience, the deputy said that it was necessary to speed up the process of liberation of Ukrainian hostages, which now takes several months. According to Savchenko, starting a hunger strike on August 3, she hoped to attract the attention of the country's leadership to this topic, but so far this did not happen, so the parliamentarian continues its protest.

Nadezhda Savchenko intends to discuss the problem of prisoners in the coming days with Peter Poroshenko. “The president had to develop a real mechanism for the exchange of people for a long time ... This must be simplified, and this can be simplified, and it is not necessary to PR, it is not necessary to say that it is difficult - it is not difficult,” the Verkhovna Rada deputy emphasized.

In turn, the Euromaidan SOS activist, human rights activist of the Civil Freedoms Center, the journalist and coordinator of the Let My People GO campaign, Maria Tomak, said that Russia is holding 29 Ukrainian political prisoners, of which 14 people are in the Russian Federation and 15 in the annexed Crimea.
