Representative of the Ukrainian General Staff Vladislav Seleznev said that the Russian armed forces are “demonstratively and defiantly” strengthening their borders on the border with Ukraine in Crimea.
According to him, on the afternoon of August 11, in each of the two directions of crossing the border (“Armenian” and “Dzhankoy”), about a hundred military personnel appeared from the Russian side, who began to carry out “measures for the engineering equipment of the border.” “They are digging trenches, trenches,” Seleznyov told 112 Ukraine TV channel.
“They began to equip positions there and dig in the ground in a revealing way. They also brought the [BM-21 multiple launch rocket system] Grad here,” Seleznyov told Interfax-Ukraine.
The representative of the General Staff said that the Ukrainian military are acting "in accordance with the task set by the president" Petro Poroshenko and "are ready for any scenario." Seleznev declined to specify what actions the Ukrainian army is taking. Earlier, Poroshenko ordered the troops on the border with Crimea and near the line of contact in the Donbass to be put on high alert.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation did not comment on the information about strengthening the border with Ukraine in Crimea.
“They really provoke us. These actions are very demonstrative and revealing. For example, in the Armenian direction in the area of n. Kalanchak village (Kherson region), the distance from the demarcation line and the administrative border to the place where Russian soldiers work is 500, a maximum of a thousand meters, ”said a representative of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
