The investigation is checking all possible versions of the death in the Matrosskaya Tishina pretrial detention center of businessman Anton Faershtein, a defendant in the case of former Komi Governor Vyacheslav Gaizer. As an informed source told Interfax, the investigation is being conducted under the articles "Murder" and "Incitement to Suicide." He called this a common practice. According to him, Faershtein was found in a cell, and no bodily injuries were found during his examination.

A representative of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation confirmed that Fayershtein committed suicide. An Interfax source in law enforcement agencies reported that “there is no reason to believe that Fayershtein’s death was violent.”

Former Komi Governor Vyacheslav Gaizer and 15 other people were arrested by the Basmanny Court on September 20, 2015. A case was opened against them under the articles "Organization and participation in a criminal community" and "Fraud", then the article "Money laundering" was added. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation estimated the damage in the case at 1.1 billion rubles. In addition to the governor, the case includes his deputy Alexander Chernov, deputy chairman of the republic's government Konstantin Romadanov, chairman of the State Council of Komi Igor Kovzel, former senator from the republic Yevgeny Samoilov and, as the investigation called them, "financiers-technologists" - Anton Faershteyn, Vasily Molyarov, Demyan Moskvin, Alexander Goldman, Valery Veselov, as well as Igor Kudinov, Pavel Marushchak, Lev Libenzon, Natalya Motorina, Mikhail Khruzin.
