Representatives of the Federal Penitentiary Service promise to return the newborn in a month, who was taken away from the arrested woman in pre-trial detention center-1 of Novosibirsk

Representatives of the Main Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Novosibirsk region stated that they did not intend to separate the woman imprisoned in pre-trial detention center No. 1 and her newborn child and were ready to provide them with the opportunity to live together in the detention center. At the same time, they promise to return the child to the mother from the hospital only in a month, writes Taiga.info.

“[A woman was admitted to pre-trial detention center No. 1 when she was six months pregnant, she gave birth in August, everything is fine. Today the child is in one of the city children's hospitals. There is no question of discharge yet. As far as I know, the child’s condition is normal,” Maxim Dubin, head of medical unit No. 54 of the Federal Penitentiary Service, told reporters during a specially convened press conference.

According to Dubin, the date when the child is discharged will be determined by the pediatricians observing the newborn. He explained that after discharge from the hospital, three options are possible: either the child is taken in by relatives, or, if the mother and her family abandon him, he is placed in an orphanage, or the child is kept with the mother in an isolation ward. In the latter case, the prison management is obliged to provide all conditions for the mother and child to live together in the cell.

“We have such mothers with children here. But purely humanly, I believe that there is no such great need to keep a child in a penitentiary institution. Why should a child be imprisoned if there are relatives? But if she insists, then we create the conditions. Why does she insist? Because holding a child in your arms makes living conditions easier. Maximum. There is still more attention to her if she has a child with her. We treat him like a child. I believe that this is just human speculation,” Dubin added.

The senior prosecutor of the department for supervision of compliance with laws in the execution of criminal sentences of the Novosibirsk region prosecutor's office, Andrei Ershov, who met with the young mother in pre-trial detention center No. 1, said that, according to the results of the inspection (which, according to him, are carried out monthly), “the grounds for the prosecutor I didn’t see any response.”

In turn, the mother of the prisoner, after a meeting with her daughter, told the publication that the girl felt satisfactory, but was worried about her son, whom she saw only in the first minutes after giving birth.

A few days ago, the prisoner’s sister complained to the prosecutor’s office about the actions of the management of pre-trial detention center No. 1 in Novosibirsk, which does not provide the mother with a joint stay with her newborn child. They planned to transfer the child to an orphanage.

According to the sister, in pre-trial detention center No. 1 they violate the current legislation and internal documents of the Federal Penitentiary Service regulating the placement of mothers with children and pregnant women. In her appeal to the prosecutor's office, she said that in this pre-trial detention center, pregnant women are kept in a common cell with other convicts and suspects. She also noted that “there is no talk of any improved nutrition or vitamins”: above the norm, they only give “one hundred grams of some kind of juice and a liter of milk, no meat, no fruits, no eggs.” There are no additional walks. In addition, pregnant women are forced to walk from the seventh floor and back and are not allowed to ventilate the room.

At the same time, the prison gynecologist told her sister that after the birth of a child, they are taken from the mother for a month for examination, and then the child is placed in an orphanage, if the mother has not yet been convicted and sent to a colony, that is, the child is without a mother from birth until her departure to the colony.
