In men, the UK team won the eight competitions, showing the fastest time in the decisive arrival - 5 minutes 29.63 seconds. The Germans (5.30.96), bronze - representatives of the Netherlands (5.31.59) went to silver.
The only Russian crew, admitted to the games in the academic rowing, performed in the competitions of men's four without a steering one. The quartet, consisting of Artem Kosov, Anton Zarutsky, Vladislav Ryabtsev and Nikita Morgachev, took the final tenth place.
Initially, Russian rowers won Olympic licenses in five classes of boats, but the International Rowing Federation and the IOC Commission allowed only six Russian rowers from the previously declared 26, as well as two steering ones. As a result, the team coaches had to form the only crew from the athletes allowed, and gave the other quotas Fisa to other countries.
