American swimmers who won gold medals at the 2016 Olympics were attacked by robbers in Rio de Janeiro. According to the US Olympic Committee, their taxi was stopped by unknown people who looked like police officers. They forced all the athletes to give up their valuables and disappeared.
According to one of the victims, Ryan Lochte, one of the robbers put a gun to his forehead, after which he took his wallet and fled.
According to The New York Times, Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimi Fagen were in the taxi with Lochte. The robbed swimmers were returning from a party at the French House in the early hours of August 14th. They celebrated the end of the Olympic swimming tournament.
