The prosecutor's office requested 9 years in prison for the leader of the "Russians" Alexander Potkin

According to the Moskva news agency, the prosecutor's office asked the court to sentence Alexander Potkin (Belov), the leader of the nationalist association "Russians" (banned in Russia), to 9 years in prison.

Potkin is accused of organizing the activities of an extremist community (Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code) in order to overthrow the President of Kazakhstan and legalize funds (Article 174) in connection with a criminal case initiated in 2009 against the Kazakh banker and politician Mukhtar Ablyazov, as well as inciting national enmity (art. 282). In addition, in the summer of 2015, a criminal case was opened against Potkin for public calls to carry out extremist activities (Article 280 of the Criminal Code) over a video from the film about the protests of 2011-2012 “Term”, which was eventually merged with the general “Kazakhstani” case. At first, the nationalist was placed under house arrest, but after a case of inciting social, national, tribal, racial or religious hatred was received from Kazakhstan by Russian law enforcement agencies, Potkin was transferred to a pre-trial detention center.
