An illegal immigrant from the Gambia tried to avoid deportation from France by eating several pages of his passport in front of police, writes French newspaper La Dépêche du Midi.
On August 15, in Toulouse, a 34-year-old man named Boubacar was outraged by the decision of the French authorities, who did not grant him asylum and decided to deport him. As the prosecutor's office explained, the Gambian native, upon seeing the plane, “fell into a state of extreme irritation.”
The man refused to board, and when he was asked for his passport, he tore out the first pages of the document and swallowed them. The Gambian then insulted the police by spitting in their direction. The plane's pilot refused to board the immigrant, believing the man posed a threat.
On August 16, a Toulouse court sentenced a man to two months in prison for trying to avoid deportation.
The publication notes that Boubacar said that he was a Gambian oppositionist, and therefore intended to obtain political asylum in France.
On August 16, in Yekaterinburg, a migrantcut his arm and stomach to avoid being deported.
