In the Chelyabinsk region, a special forces sergeant of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation is seeking guarantees of insurance payment to relatives in the event of his death, writes Znak.com. On August 15, the man was declared disabled due to progressive cancer.

Activist of the public movement “Servicemen also have rights” Alexey Kovalev said that a sergeant’s claim against the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation was filed in the Sosnovsky District Court.

“Alexey (the soldier’s last name is not given), a senior contract sergeant of the Chelyabinsk special forces detachment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs “Obereg”, is recognized as disabled group II due to progressive cancer, and doctors say today that his situation is very difficult. He is undergoing hospital treatment, so the law does not have the right to fire him. However, in the event of the sergeant’s death, his family will not receive insurance, since since January 1, 2016, military personnel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation do not have any insurance,” said Kovalev.

The publication clarifies that, according to Federal Law No. 52, military personnel are entitled to state insurance covering the entire period of service, even if death or injury did not occur during the performance of their duties.

Until December 31, 2015, military personnel of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation were serviced by the VTB Insurance company. For the period 2016-2018. a new contract was never concluded with anyone. For the first time, not a single insurer took part in the Ministry of Internal Affairs competition. This year, the ministry was ready to pay 22.4 billion rubles for insurance policies, Vedomosti writes . For the previous similar contract, the department paid 25 billion rubles.

“The situation was carefully not advertised by the department. I myself encountered it only when relatives of deceased employees of the Internal Troops began contacting us this year. In eight months of 2016 in Chelyabinsk, two died from the disease and one committed suicide. No insurance - no payment. Therefore, we were forced to go to court to oblige the Ministry of Internal Affairs to take care of their sick soldier,” said Alexey Kovalev.

According to him, on August 15, doctors officially confirmed Alexey’s disability, and on August 16, all documents for processing the required payments were ready. The court said that the date for consideration of the claim has not yet been set.
