Rosstat: the decline in real incomes of Russians has accelerated

Real cash incomes of Russian citizens in July decreased by 7% compared to the same period last year, according to Rosstat data.

From January to July, Russians’ income decreased by 5.3%. Monthly income per capita amounted to 30 thousand 896 rubles. In nominal terms, it remained almost unchanged over the year.

In July 2016, the average monthly salary was 36 thousand 525 rubles. It grew by 7.8% in nominal terms and by 0.6% in real terms compared to July 2015.

Real disposable cash income is the income that remains after paying all mandatory payments, income that can be used for personal consumption and savings. The incomes of Russians have been declining continuously for 21 months.

Kommersant, having analyzed Rosstat data, notes that in July 2016, private consumption increased, and real wages of citizens decreased even more than in June. In annual terms, the decline in retail trade slowed to 5% - from minus 5.9% in June, and consumption of paid services - to 1% (from 2%, respectively).

The Federal State Statistics Agency reported on the number of unemployed - according to the latest data, there are four million of them - this is more than 5% of the economically active population.

On August 16, business ombudsman Boris Titov said that over the past three years the number of jobs in Russia has decreased by 6.8 million.
