In the Novosibirsk region, more than three thousand migrants will lose their jobs

More than three thousand citizens of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Moldova and Azerbaijan, working in the Novosibirsk region on patents, will lose their jobs, the regional Ministry of Labor said in a statement. They are forced to change their field of activity due to a ban on work in a number of professions. The decree on this was signed by the regional governor Vladimir Gorodetsky on August 15.

“It is worth noting that the ban does not apply to those foreign citizens who are members of the Eurasian Economic Union. That is, citizens of Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan can work in all fields of activity in accordance with their qualifications,” the press service of the regional Ministry of Labor said in a statement.

According to the department, the ban will affect 2,419 migrant workers working in the field of labor recruitment and personnel selection, 144 workers in scheduled passenger transport, 449 foreigners working in the field of secretarial, editorial and translation services, 119 workers employed in agriculture economy, hunting and forestry, 33 employees in the field of education and five in the field of financial activities.

Currently, the Federal Migration Service in the Novosibirsk region has issued over 25 thousand patents for the employment of foreign citizens, that is, 15% of migrants will have to change jobs.

Governor of the Novosibirsk region Vladimir Gorodetsky said that the resolution was approved as part of regulating the labor market, protecting the internal labor market, and also to ensure safety.

According to the Ministry of Labor, about 64% of citizens support the decision of the Novosibirsk region.

“This is evidenced by data from a survey organized on the website of the Russian radio station Ekho Moskvy. Here, since the publication of the resolution, August 15, an online and telephone survey of Russian citizens on this issue has been organized. More than 950 people have already expressed their opinion. The overwhelming majority of them supported the decision of the Novosibirsk region,” the press service said in a statement.

Regions of the Russian Federation received the right to decide in which areas migrant workers can work in December 2015. Kommersant, citing a study by the Academy of Labor and Social Relations (ATiSO), notes that recently in several industries - the financial sector, education, healthcare, wholesale and retail trade - there has been an outflow of foreign workers in favor of Russian ones.
