25 years ago, on the evening of August 20, 1991, while trying to stop a convoy of eight infantry fighting vehicles in a tunnel at the intersection of the Garden Ring with Novy Arbat, three defenders of the White House were killed - Vladimir Usov, Dmitry Komar and Ilya Krichevsky. The news of their death spread widely throughout Moscow on the morning of August 21, and many thousands of Muscovites joined the ranks of the defenders of the White House, where President Yeltsin, the government and the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR were located.
