The Turkish parliament approved an agreement on the normalization of relations with Israel, the BBC reports . This opens the way to the complete restoration of diplomatic relations, between countries torn due to an incident with the Freedom Flotilla in 2010.

According to the terms of the agreement, Israel must pay about $ 20 million as a compensation for the death of 10 Turkish activists who died in 2010 during the Israeli military raid on the Flothel Flotilla. Ankara, in turn, undertakes to abandon the criminal prosecution of the Israelis, who became participants in the incident.

Initially, Türkiye required the removal of blockade from the gas sector, however, the final version of the agreement does not imply this. Nevertheless, according to the document, Türkiye will receive the right to provide humanitarian assistance to the gas sector and build a number of civil objects there.

The agreement on the normalization of relations between the two countries was signed by Turkey and Israel in late June. The Cabinet of Ministers of Israel has already approved the document. The ratification of the agreement by the Turkish parliament was postponed due to an attempt by a military coup in the country on July 15.

In 2010, the vessels of the Flotod Freedom intended to break through the three -year blockade of the gas sector. In addition to the humanitarian cargo, more than 600 activists from European and Arab countries were on ships for residents of the blocked region. Israel refused to pass the vessels, offering them to unload in the Israeli port. After the flotilla refused to follow the requirements of the authorities,the Israeli special forces landed on ships. As a result of the incident, 10 people died.

Israel insists that activists were the first to attack the special forces and they were forced to defend themselves. This information is also confirmed by personnel of the video recording of the operation to capture the vessel. According to the Israeli authorities, the Flotilla of Freedom, under the guise of a humanitarian cargo, tried to carry weapons in gas.

The incident led to a breakdown of diplomatic relations between Israel and Turkey.
