The Venice Film Festival begins

Today, August 31, the Musicle of La La Land (La Land), American director Damien Shazella, opens the 73rd Venetian International Film Festival.

In addition to Shazella’s film in the main competition program of the festival 19 paintings by Lava Diaz, Emir Kusturitsa, Terrens Malik, Francois Ozon, Denis Vilnev, Vim Wenders and other filmmakers from around the world.

Russia in the competition of the Venice festival is represented by the film "Paradise" by Andrei Konchalovsky. His previous film, “The White Nights of the Postman Alexei Tryapitsyn,” received a prize for the best directing at the 2014 Venice festival.

The owners of the main prizes of this year, including the Golden Leo for the best film, will determine the jury under the chairmanship of the British director, producer and playwright Sam Mendes .

The “horizons” section will compete with 35 films that will evaluate the jury led by French director Robert Gedigyan.

Outside the competition in Venice this year, in particular, the new works of Ulrich Zaydel, Mela Gibson and Kim Ki Duk, as well as the first two episodes of the series “ Young Pope” Paolo Sorrentino and the documentary of Sergey Loznitsa Austerlitz , will be shown.

The special program “Venetian Classics” included 20 restored films, including “Stalker” (1979) by Andrei Tarkovsky and “Black Eyes” (1987) by Nikita Mikhalkov.

At the closure of the 73rd Venice International Film Festival on September 10, Western Antoine Fukua “ The Magnificent Seven” will be shown-a remake of the 1960 film of the same name.
