Who was the first to announce the appearance of ominous clowns in the forest is not exactly unknown. On August 24, the manager of the residential complex Fleetwood Manor sent a letter to the residents, which spoke about the "large number" of the incoming complaints. People reported the manager, discuss a certain “clown or a person dressed as a clown who takes children or tries to lure children into the forest.” He said that the Greenville police are already in the know, and advised not to leave the children alone at night and not let them go for a walk at the forest.
The police really interviewed the residents of the complex. The police report, on the Internet, says that on August 19, the son of one of the local residents saw clowns in the forest - "whispering and making strange sounds." The woman, Donna Arnold, did not believe her child, but went to check his words. Among the trees, she also noticed several people in clown costumes. Clowns, Arnold claims, shone from laser decisions, and when they saw a woman, they disappeared.
According to Arnold, the very next day “about 30 children came to her” and said: “Miss Donna, Miss Donna, there are clowns in the forest.” “My child was with me all this time, so I knew that they saw something. Not one child saw them, so I am sure that he is telling the truth, ”she said.
In the evening of August 20, the witness of the incident, which is also associated with the advent of clowns in the city, was the eldest son of a woman. He claims that some people rang in chains and knocked on the front door of the house.
Along with this, another case got into the police report. One of the local residents said that she met a man in a clown suit, returning home at half past three in the morning. “The clown of a large complexion with a blinking nose standing under a lantern next to the trash,” the woman described it. The man in a suit waved her hand, after which she, too, waved to him and went to her home, the document says. The stranger did not approach the woman and cause her any harm.
The locals were sure that the clowns were hiding in the house by the pond, to which the path leads through the forest. The police, after listening to their stories, checked the house, but did not find any evidence that people in clown costumes were there. After that, they wanted to learn the videos, but found out that there were no surveillance cameras in this area.
This whole story, notes The New York Times, is similar to "Meshino from newspaper cuts and pages, torn from Stephen King's novels." Nevertheless, on August 29 a new message was received about the appearance of clowns - this time a child from another residential complex told about him.
This is not the first time that mass reports of sinister clowns appear, the newspaper writes. In 2014, they were allegedly seen in Albuquerque, in 2015-in the cemetery in Chicago. Finally, a few weeks ago a similar message came from the city of Green-Bay in Wisconsin: a man in a clown suit wandered through the streets with a bunch of black balloons.
As the New York Times recalls, in mass culture there is an image of ominous clowns, created by the novel “It” by Stephen King and the serial killer John Wayne Gasey, who was dressed in a clown costume. According to the publication, this image can be used by lovers of draws, virus marketing specialists and criminals.
