
Today, September 1, at a meeting of the Urban Planning and Earth Commission of Moscow, it was decided to restore and reconstruct the building of the library of the Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences (INION) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which suffered from a fire in the winter of 2015.
As the chairman of the Moskomstroyinvest Konstantin Timofeev told reporters, after repair and reconstruction, the building will retain its functionality and will be used for conducting scientific activities, Interfax reports.
“Earlier, the area of the building was 30 thousand square meters, after the completion of the work, the area will increase to 35.5 thousand square meters,” Timofeev said.
The INION RAS library building on Nakhimovsky Prospekt in Moscow was badly damaged as a result of a fire on January 30, 2015. The fire covered 2000 sq.m, about 1000 square meters of roof collapsed. The fire was able to extinguish on the night of February 1, after which the building was processed all day with water to prevent re -fire.
As a result, 5 million copies of scientific publications stored in the Institute Fund were lost . Almost 11 thousand people signed an appeal to Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on the Internet with a request to decide on the restoration of the INION RAS building and the preservation of the institute and the library in it.
At the end of July 2016, the INION RAS team expressed anxiety for the reconstruction project of the building victim in the fire, since the project of restoration of the funds that had at their disposal did not comply with the volume of library funds.
