According to the online magazine Chernika, on August 31, FSB officers searched the office of the Karelian environmental organization SPOK.
According to information available to environmentalists, FSB officers were looking for cartographic materials that were state secrets. During the four-hour search, hard drives and laptops were seized.
SPOK is an authoritative environmental organization dealing with the conservation of valuable forests. This summer, SPOK acted, for example, in support of the inhabitants of the Karelian village of Suna, whose inhabitants protected the pine forest near the village from being cut down. Last year, SPOK activists took part in rallies in support of Petrozavodsk City Council deputy Olga Zaletskaya , after which an unscheduled inspection was carried out in the organization and it was recognized as an NGO acting as a foreign agent.
