75 years ago, September 3, 1941, Russian writer Sergei Dovlatov was born. In the USSR, he was practically deprived of the opportunity to publish, and the set of his first book "Five Corners" in the publishing house "Esty Raamat" was destroyed at the direction of the KGB. In 1976 he was expelled from the Union of Journalists of the USSR for publishing his works in the West and emigrated to the United States in 1978.

In America, Dovlatov became the editor -in -chief of the New American weekly newspaper. Translations of his works were published in the prestigious magazines The New Yorker and Partisan Review. In his homeland, the widest fame came to the writer only after death (he died in 1990).
