Interfax reported the death of Islam Karimov

Interfax, citing an official statement from the government of Uzbekistan, reported that the country's president, Islam Karimov, had died.

There is no statement on the official website of the Cabinet of Ministers. The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of RIA Novosti stated that they did not distribute a message about the death. In the Interfax feed there is nothing but an urgent one-line message.

On September 2, the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan announced that Islam Karimov was in critical condition. Officials from other countries told the AP news agency that they were invited to Karimov's funeral on September 3.

• The Ferghana agency reported that Karimov died on August 29, the day after it became known about his hospitalization. Officially, this information was not commented on.
• Islam Karimov has been the President of Uzbekistan since 1991.
