This is the first message about Karimov’s death received from international media. The local independent agency Ferghana reported that the president had died on August 29.
According to official figures, Karimov since late August has been in the hospital after a stroke. On the night of September 2, the government of the country announced that the president’s state of health “sharply worsened” and is critical.
On the morning of September 2, from government sources in Kazakhstan it became known that the president of this country Nursultan Nazarbayev will make a previously unknown visit to Uzbekistan on September 3. The media suggested that Nazarbayev was going to Karimov’s funeral.
According to Ferghana, officially the death of the President of Uzbekistan will be announced during the day on September 2.
