Islam Karimov was buried in Samarkand

In Samarkand on Saturday, the farewell ceremony and the funeral of the first president of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov was held. Only official delegations are allowed to register for farewell, and for the funeral they cleared the place in the Shahi-Zinda cemetery closed for burial for 20 years, RIA Novosti reports. Russia is represented by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev at the ceremony. As explained in the Kremlin, President Putin could not be present due to the loaded schedule.

At about 13:00, the coffin with the body of Karimov was carried to the cemetery, the TASS agency said. Karimov was buried in the cemetery where his parents rest. The trawl prayer for the death of the president took place near the Madrases of Till-Coria on the Registan Square.

RIA reports that the inhabitants of Samarkand, meeting a motorcade with the body of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, dotted with roses a path of a few kilometers from the airport to the Central Square of Registan. Tens of thousands of townspeople came to meet the mourning process that arrived at Samarkand Airport with Tashkent by plane. Many of them could not hold back tears.

The path of the mourning ceremony to the Registan Square passed by another attraction - the Gur -Emir complex, where the medieval ruler of Uzbekistan Tamerlan was buried. The motorcade proceeded to the Registan Square for the farewell ceremony.

Following the motorcade with a coffin on the way from the airport to Registan, official delegations from different countries began to arrive. For public transport, the Samarkand Center is still closed. At every step there are law enforcement officers.

A mourning procession will go from the Registan to the historical cemetery of Shahi-Zinda, where medieval figures, as well as the parents of Islam Karimov, are buried. The president himself will be buried next to them. For the past 20 years, no one has bury anyone on the shahs-Zinda, but an exception has been made for the first president of Uzbekistan.

On August 27, Karimova was hospitalized with a stroke. His heart stopped, but after resuscitation the heartbeat was restored. Despite the efforts of the doctors, the president fell into a coma and died on September 2.

Islam Karimov was born on January 30, 1938 in Samarkand (Uzbek SSR, USSR). In Soviet times, he served as the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Uzbek SSR (1989-1991). Uzbekistan has been managing from the moment the Soviet Republic gained independence. In 1990-1992 - the head of the government of Uzbekistan, then - the president. In the first elections, I scored 86%, then - stably more than 90%.
