The creation of a national encyclopedic portal will not lead to the closure of Wikipedia. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister, head of the apparatus of the Russian government Sergey Prikhodko, Interfax reports .

“Anticipating the most popular issue of the last week, I want to immediately put the points over the“ i ”. No intentions to ban, replace or confront the Wikipedia do not have and will not have,” said Prikhodko, who headed the working group to create a portal. The Deputy Prime Minister called the “complete nonsense” messages about the plans to close the Wikipedia. Such publications are a result of “insufficient Competence and political taxation, they have nothing to do with reality, ”he said.

The portal will not compete with Wikipedia, it is designed to solve larger problems, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized. "In the total volume of this universal encyclopedia, and, especially, related to modern domestic realities, hardly occupy even one percent," said Prikhodko.

According to Deputy Prime Minister, the national scientific and educational portal will be created on the basis of digitizing the 35-volume universal scientific large Russian encyclopedia, the publication of which will end in 2017. “It will be a multi -level base of reliable knowledge, accessible to people with various educational and research requests,” said Prikhodko. “We want to give our citizens the opportunity, paraphrasing Solzhenitsyn,“ not to know by lies ” - to create an affordable territory of reliable knowledge.”

The creators of the portal, according to Prikhodko, intend to pay special attention to the introduction of its capabilities into the daily educational process first in universities, and in the future in schools.

To create such an Internet resource, it is instructed to create an interdepartmental working group. It will also include representatives of a number of departments, including the Ministry of Communications, Rospechat, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Culture, Foreign Ministry, Rosstat, Rosreestr, the Federal Agency of Scientific Organizations, as well as the Russian Academy of Sciences.

For the first time with the idea to create an alternative to Wikipedia, the Director General of the RNB Anton Likhomanov made in mid -April 2014 at a meeting of the Academic Council of the Presidential Library named after Yeltsin. In November 2014, it became known that the Presidential Library and the Russian National Library began work on the electronic encyclopedia about Russia , which is designed to become an alternative to Wikipedia. According to the compilers of the new encyclopedia, their project will become one of the most popular Runet resources.
