It is clear that a political order was made to the Ministry of Justice for the denunciation of a member of the Council of the Federation Sablin. He is one of the ideological leaders of Anti -Maidan, a person who drowns everything that is possible to show his political loyalty and devotion.
The law on foreign agents from a legal point of view is simply absurd and blatantly unlawful. It is composed extremely wide, everything falls into it.
The Federation Council thinks differently. One of its members Konstantin Kosachev considers the law on “foreign agents” quite liberal and recommends that Levada Center “become a truly Russian agency”:
The activities of an organization recognized by a foreign agent are not prohibited in accordance with Russian law. Even if this organization receives money from abroad. In many other countries, by the way, this would be simply impossible, our legislation in this sense is much more liberal than many foreign analogues. <...>
The source of supposedly objective and impartial analytics about domestic political processes in our country (as well as in any other) cannot depend on foreign financing. Even when it is only "including." As the classic said, “there is only one freshness - the first, it is the last. And if the sturgeon is second freshness, then this means that it is rotten!”
In fact, the Levada Center received more than three hundred million rubles from foreign sources over the past two years. These sources are not very understandable organizations from the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Norway, Lithuania and other states that are not distinguished by love for Russia. And everyone who studies the results of the published “levad-center” polls, and not just the owners of the agency, its internal auditors and accountant, should know about this.
I am only to ensure that there is more sociological agencies and that the Levada Center continues its work. The task is quite solved - not to fall into a murmur fainting and not falling into real depression, but simply to clean the register of sponsors (customers) and become a real national sociological agency. That is - Russian.

This is a very sad news, which in the most negative way will affect the atmosphere in the professional community, the quality and reliability of research conducted in Russia. Levada Center is the oldest and one of the largest and most authoritative questionnaires. Today, without “Levada” (with all its advantages and problems), it is impossible to imagine the sociological palette of the country. I believe that sociologists and marketers are individually and through public organizations should support colleagues. A blow to Levada is a blow to all and each of us, public opinion and democracy in the country!
The stigma of a foreign agent for a sociological service is an actual sentence, it will not be able to work with it.
If the Levadovites are not able to achieve the abolition of this decision of the Ministry of Justice, the end will come to the end of independent sociology in Russia. I emphasize the word “regarding”, since the Levada Center always acted quite carefully, and was not seen in the cavalry fibilities for power. But the relatively independent sociology, apparently, stood up to some across the throat.
Now we will observe: if this scandalous decree is canceled, then sociologists decided to simply scare before the elections. So that with their "stupid surveys" they do not be too zealous. This, as they say, is a light option.
If the Levada Center is really strangled, then we enter the era of developed neo -feudalism, with the complete unity of the "brethren and the people", but who do not like our scrapers - be kind with things to exit.
I somehow had a course on the history of Soviet sociology. And it seems that in 1969, something similar just with the colleagues of Yuri Alexandrovich (along with him) was already happening. Then it was called "for ideological mistakes in lectures." This time, probably "ideological mistakes in the results of the surveys." 18 years passed and appeared in VTsIOM (which later became a separate story). Science cannot be foreign!
I want to express full support to colleagues from the Levada Center, who are called "foreign agents".
And I am absolutely parallel to me whether they did a study by order of the University of Wisconsin or not. They didn’t do it - well done. They did it - especially: this is one of the best universities in the world, there is a very strong sociology, and for any researcher to make a project with them is a great honor.
I do not know if Senator Sablin is aware of, but the truth has neither the price nor nationality. Therefore, this is a sabotage not against a particular organization, but against research in principle. The levada center should support everyone for whom knowledge is not an empty phrase.
