2011. Yak-42 crash near Yaroslavl

Five years ago, on September 7, 2011, 44 people died in a Yak-42 plane crash near Yaroslavl, including hockey players from the local Lokomotiv team. Only the aviation and radio maintenance engineer Alexander Sizov survived.

The cause of the disaster was the erroneous actions of the commander or co-pilot, who involuntarily pressed the brake pedals during the takeoff run. This led to the occurrence of a dive moment, which did not allow the aircraft to raise the nose wheel at the right time and start lifting off the runway. Some pilots claimed that the cause of the accident was the FSO helicopter, which blocked the path of the aircraft on the runway, due to which one of the pilots tried to slow down and the other to take off.
