The Parliament of Uzbekistan on Thursday was appointed Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev as a temporary acting president of the country, Interfax reports .

The death of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov was officially reported on September 2. According to the government, on August 27, the head of state suffered a stroke, from which he could not recover.

Karimov held his post for almost 27 years.
