Kyiv against voting in the premises of the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation in Ukraine

The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine announced the impossibility of voting in the premises of the diplomatic and consular services of the Russian Federation in Ukraine during the elections to the State Duma of Russia. In the morning, President of Ukraine Poroshenko ordered to transfer to the Russian Foreign Ministry that it would be impossible to vote in Russian elections in Ukrainian territory.

After that, Russia was offered to think about the organization of voting in diplomatic agents: the embassy in Kyiv and three Generals.

A comment on this was given by the director of the Department of Policy and Communication of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Alexei Makeev. According to him, Moscow violates international law in connection with the election in the territories that Kyiv has lost control - this refers to Crimea and Sevastopol. The diplomat expressed a “decisive protest” in connection with the plans for holding voting there in the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

He noted that such actions are a violation by Russia of international obligations. “In this regard, Russia is not possible to hold Russia's elections in the premises of the diplomatic and consular services of the Russian Federation,” Interfax quoted Makeev quoted.

According to him, according to the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations, Russian diplomatic missions should respect the legislation of the state of stay and not use its premises for purposes incompatible with the functions of a representative office provided for by law and multilateral and bilateral international treaties, the participant of which is the Russian Federation.

On September 8, 2016, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine turned to the parliaments of foreign states, parliamentary assemblies and international organizations not to recognize the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in the territory of Crimea and Sevastopol.

The elections to the State Duma will be held on September 18.
