Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev met with fishermen while walking on a boat on Lake Ilmen in the Novgorod region. The Kremlin’s website published a photo report on the meeting of the first persons of the state with fishermen in pure new orange uniforms with reflectors.

Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the president and prime minister decided to spend the weekend in the fresh air in the Novgorod region.

On Saturday, in the afternoon, the head of state and the chairman of the government arrived together to Lipno Island, from where they went for a walk along the lake on a boat on the Delta of the Msta River. The weather was calm, the waves were small, which allowed Putin and Medvedev to overcome several kilometers through the water and talk in an informal setting.

According to TASS, "they met fishermen on the way, who caught fish with the help of the first persons of the state in two Soyms (wooden boats with a length of 12 - 15 meters) with the help of a net." The president and the prime minister stopped at their boats, greeted the fishermen, and then invited to join the conversation.

Fishermen showed Putin and Medvedev a method of fishing with a net, which is stretched between two boats. The agency claims that there is no motor on fishing boats, and they use only the power of wind. The head of state and the prime minister asked the fishermen in detail about the technology of these boats, asked the catch.

In addition to communicating with fishermen, the president and prime minister examined the territory of the island of Lipno and visited the old church of Nikola on Lipna. This is one of the first stone temples erected after the Mongol invasion. During the Great Patriotic War, the temple was destroyed and restored in 1956.

Lipno island is one of the picturesque places on Lake Ilmen. Now only one elderly woman lives on it. Fishermen often stop here while fishing.

Putin listened to the request of the fishermen and promised to help

According to RIA Novosti , the president and prime minister listened to the fishing of the fishermen and promised to help: they asked to preserve the method of fishing with the help of soim - special boats that go to the water under sails.

The fishermen said that the current legislation does not allow to register boats of this type in the river registry in connection with the classification of small vessels, under which the soims do not fall.

“Good. We heard you. We will help, make it. Moreover, the vessels that we have seen today are an exact copy of the wooden ships that they made here several centuries ago. They work on Ilmen, and there are no problems,” Putin said.

Medvedev added that in this way there is a sparing fish capture, since fishermen do not use motors and fuel for their boats.
