On the territory of Syria, from 19:00 Moscow time, a ceasefire was introduced, which Russia and the United States previously agreed during bilateral negotiations in Geneva. This is the second attempt by Washington and Moscow to stop the civil war and stop hostilities in Syria, Reuters reports.
The introduction of the ceasefire was already supported in Turkey and Iran. It is expected that, first of all, this step will solve a catastrophic humanitarian crisis in certain areas of Syria, including Aleppo.
The head of the main operational department of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Sergei Rudskoy said that the Russian side has completed all the necessary preparations for the regime of termination of hostilities in Syria, RBC reports.
"In accordance with these agreements today, from 19:00 throughout the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, the regime of termination of hostilities is resumed," Rudskaya confirmed. He added that to ensure the ceasefire in all Syrian provinces, the Russian center for the reconciliation of the warring parties deployed operational groups.
At the same time, Rudskoy emphasized that attacks on the positions of terrorists in the country will continue. The head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria, Lieutenant General Vladimir Savchenko, in turn, said that the official Damascus was ready to fulfill all clauses of the agreement. "The terms of the agreement have been brought to the Syrian side, and consent to their strict implementation was received," he said.
The representative of the Russian Center for Reconciliation, Colonel Sergei Kapitsyn, added that the Syrian government troops are ready to move away from the road of Castello, which connects the eastern and western parts of the city of Aleppo, only together with the opposition, RIA Novosti reports.
Earlier, the opposition groups of Syria sent a letter to the United States, in which they emphasized their willingness to cooperate in the settlement of the crisis, but expressed fears regarding some details of the Russian-American agreement, which was announced on the night of September 10.
The opposition believes that the temporary truce in the country, which should occur on Monday, September 12, is devoid of guarantees, monitoring mechanisms, as well as sanctions for its violation. The letter emphasizes that it was the absence of guarantees "that allowed the regime to undermine the previous agreement."
In addition, representatives of the opposition parties perplexed with bewilderment that the armed forces should stop shelling in the Syria areas, where the seizures of rebels and terrorists were not carried out, but only within nine days after the “silence regime”. "Such time frames will give the regime the opportunity to inflict huge damage to the regions where civilians live, as well as our troops," the document says.
Recall that the plan for the preparation of Syria for a political settlement of the crisis was prepared during long negotiations between the heads of foreign policy departments of Russia and the USA Sergey Lavrov and John Kerry.
The first step in implementing the agreements of the Russian Federation and the United States will be the termination of hostilities. During the truce, a joint special center will be created, which will be taken by the demarcation of terrorist groups from opposition representatives in Syria.
Moscow and Washington also agreed on the Syrian areas, where they will strike only the Russian Air Force and the US Air Force. Actions in these areas will be carried out as coordinated as possible.
